Respite Housing Program

Respite offers this scattered site housing program for homeless individuals with disabilities. It is a “housing first model,” placing individuals into apartments paid for with HUD funds for approximately one year.

Program includes:

Housing assistance: Clients are provided with assistance in obtaining an apartment, obtaining furnishings and limited moving assistance

Documentation assistance: CRC case managers assist in compiling documentation for disability, filing for and expediting approvals for SSI/SSDI; once approved and payments begin, SSI/SSDI payments replace HUD funds to cover rent payments, and in some cases, clients re-enter the workforce and have earned income to cover rent payments

Life skills training: Housing Coordinator works with client on basics of Activities of Daily Living (ADLs); activities may include budgeting, grocery shopping, social skills, and reconnecting to the community
